Positive Behavioral Intervention Specialists (PBIS) offer behavioral programming to assist participants in the development of positive alternatives to behavior that traditionally brought negative results. Many program participants demonstrate behavioral challenges, often exacerbated by cognitive and executive function deficits that could jeopardize their ability to remain safe and healthy in the community. Behavioral supports are designed to be personally meaningful and are provided in the context of the everyday life of program participants. Behavioral programs, like all Millview programs, are person centered and the individuals are included in every phase of the development of goals for this service. The behavior plan is shared with other providers and natural supports to ensure collaboration and increase the probability of successful generalization of behavioral strategies.
Our goal is to implement alternative coping mechanisms that improve monitoring and regulation of potential behavioral challenges. Behavioral programs are designed to assist participants who demonstrate behaviors that are related to: frustration, low tolerance levels, anger management, organization and memory, impulsive thinking and actions, judgment and decision making, and emotional concerns. Behavioral programs are also designed to be systematically reduced as the individuals incorporate strategies and self-coaching techniques in order to show improvement over time.
